County Chamber Weight Loss Challenge

The New Castle County Chamber of Commerce launched

the Weight Loss Challenge with twenty-six teams of five for a total of 130 participants. President Mark Kleinschmidt said, "The Chamber Weight Loss Challenge is part of a year-long effort by the Chamber to bring a larger focus on health and wellness. We have all seen the very strong statistics that prove healthy and well employees are more productive and happier in the workplace. It all points to a better bottom line."

The twenty-six teams come from 16 different companies. Participating companies include: Blue Cross Blue Shield, The CBI Group, Cielo Salon and Spa, Pettinaro Residential, Delaware Today, Embassy Suites Newark, Delaware Art Museum, Smalls Insurance and others. Each participating a team of five well-qualified people will have an Initial weigh-in to determine the total team weight.

The winning team, determined at the end of the 70-day period, will be the one with the largest average percentage of weight loss. The winners will receive a luxury box for up to 20 people at a future Blue Rocks game.

The Chamber has partnered with members Core Fitness to help with motivation and resolve during the 70-day stretch of diet and exercise CORE Fitness, a leading performance training studio, owned by Arianne Missimer, will work with the Chamber to coordinate the Chamber Weight Loss Challenge. CORE Fitness conducted the initial weigh-in and will also handle a weight check at the mid-point on day 35. After each weigh in, CORE will provide information about nutrition, fitness, overall health and wellness, and goal setting.

To help promote some friendly competition a Facebook page (Chamber Weight Loss Challenge) has been set up. This will provide the participants with a great way to communicate, share ideas for weight loss and provide an outlet for some competitive chatter!

The results of each weigh-in will be posted on the Chamber’s and CORE Fitness’s websites and Facebook pages. The winning team will be announced during the "County Chamber Night" at the Blue Rocks game on June 8.
